Before the protestant reformation there was only one church, which was called the universal church. Back in this time the church was ran by the pope. This was in roman that’s why the religion was named Roman Catholic. Also at this time there was less religions and no one had trouble trying to figure out what religion they wanted to be. Martin Luther started the protestant reformation by posting his 95 theses on the front door of the castle church. This started commotions with the Catholic Church because inside of his theses he stated things about the church that he did not approve of.
