Kailegh had racial slurs directed at her in high school. She knew it was an issue but was afraid to bring attention to it because of the negativity that would have likely escalated even further. Situations like the one she experienced, only made us further analyze on what triggers people to act in an extremely demeaning way.
The “Etown College Democrats” is a student-run social group that discussed a controversial topic in “white privilege.” Their arguments were that white people are given more chances and opportunities than black people. The term can also apply to situations like the criminal justice system where a caucasian person will receive less time in prison than an African American male committing the same exact crime. It is important to hear both sides of a topic or else you will not get knowledgeable and thought provoking viewpoints to help you understand an issue. For an example, a paradigm shift is a way of switching from a geocentric view to a heliocentric view, so you could see a different perspective.
