The resource war that Oketh- Ogendo is referring to, is the battle that occurs when the world most powerful countries wage war to claim resources of particular importance. As mentioned in the movie by the economist John Perkins, this battle is step up after a certain procedure has been performed. A resource war only really occurs when the country that has the natural resource is very disobedient to the stronger governments demand. For example, Iraq has plenty of oil and the United states wanted to gain this precious commodity. So first off, the US sent in correspondents to bribe the Sadam Hussein into exporting oil to the US for an extremely low price. As a result, the US sent in the military to fight the Iraqi government and extract this precious substance. The resource war seems to be a last resort for many first world countries. Usually, resource wars lead to unintended consequences for the country that gets invaded. In the article “The consequences of the US-led war against Iraq”, the author states that the resource war in Iraq has lead to night raids and massacres. Although, the US only wanted to obtain, it needs to pass certain the obstacles in this case there were people that were caught up in the resource war. Also, the resource war in Iraq led to to Iraq being completely split up with different places being governed by certain groups. This contributes greatly to the rise of ISIS. So even if this all started off as a war for a certain commodity, as ISIS is spreading havoc
