Naturally, this research proves that abuse survivors can become successful and powerful members of society. The existence of several celebrities who have gone through abusive childhoods backs up this research even more. Actress Drew Barrymore is a prime example of someone who has risen above their abusive past and not allowed it to block their career and dominate their personality. Barrymore was physically and mentally abused by her alcoholic stepfather, and often neglected by her irresponsible mother.
