It is equally important to speak with students about bullying, as they need to understand bullying is real and happens daily. They should be aware of the repercussions of actively being involved in the bullying of another child and should accept responsibility for their actions. Actively discussing the prospect of bullying insures that each student is aware and can spot a situation before it escalates.
To deter bullying in public school systems there should be a zero tolerance for bullying and corrective measures in place to deal with bullying whether it is physical or emotional. There should be no politics when it comes to bullying. Administration needs to have an open door policy for students to feel comfortable talking about the situation. In addition to that the students need to know and understand that administration is listening carefully and taking the situation seriously. Administrators must take immediate action in rectifying the situation.
