The Discriminatory: The Role Of Racism In Our Society

Racism is the discriminatory behaviour towards people based on their race. Although race is socially constructed, it still determines our life chances, access to education, health, income, etc. (Wilkinson, 2017). According to Banton (1977) the European scientist assumed that race is biologically constructed which bring us to “Scientific racism”. Scientific racism is a believe that some persons are inherently superior or inferior, culturally, socially and morally to others, based on their biological make-up. He went on to say that racism was one of the scientific mistakes: scientist wrongly equating biological difference with cultural difference since hypotheses are proven false, data are misinterpreted and variables are not measured properly (Satzewich & Liodakis, 2013).
