The Dietary Guidelines for Americans offer nutritional advice to help aid U.S. citizens in making healthy food and beverage choices. The guideline’s recommendations are designed to “promote health, prevent chronic disease, and help people reach and maintain a healthy weight (1).” In 1980, the first release of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans was published. With its publication, the Dietary Guidelines was required under the National Nutrition Monitoring and Related Research Act of 1990. In consequent to the act being passed, The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) are required to update the Dietary Guidelines every five years to include new scientific documentation found on nutrition
