In Nathaniel Hawthorne’s “Young Goodman Brown”, the protagonist Goodman Brown stumbles upon evil incarnate, the Devil himself. Throughout his journey in the forest with the devil, Young Goodman Brown had discovered a disheartening truth about his fellow townspeople. This truth would forever change Young Goodman Brown’s (and the audience’s) perspective of others. To begin with, Young Goodman Brown discovers the devil in the forest just outside of the town of Salem.
