The woman's boyfriend had just been released from prison for beating her in 2014. She stayed with him and stood by his side when he was jailed for that attack. The man turned on her once again in a horrific beating that was caught on camera showing him beating her for 10 minutes.

The video captured 37-year-old Mark Power punching, kicking and dragging his girlfriend during the violent attack. He threw her down the stairs three times while he continued to drag her and throw her around during his rage according to the Mirror.

In Jane Kilbourne’s review for the ad of Skintimate shaving cream I feel she missed the mark completely. The ad shows a good looking man with the word heartbreaker underneath his picture, a razor laying on top of a bar of soap and a can of Skintimate shaving cream with the headline “Two Ways a Woman Can Get Hurt”. The ad says “So while guys may continue to be a pain, shaving most definitely won’t.” As a women I found this ad to be humorous, what woman has not thought of a man to be a pain? Most woman I know definitely feel shaving to be a pain and especially if all you have is a bar of soap.…

Abuse comes in many forms, but one of the most concerning and violent of abuses is domestic and intimate partner violence (DV/IPV). Jennifer R. Farmer’s Huffington Post article “Crystal Hamilton, Black Women and Domestic Violence,” is an article written to give a voice to an issue that many choose to keep quiet. Domestic violence affects up to 1.3 million individuals a year nationally (Farmer) but is one of the most scarcely reported; for women of color, low economic standing and sex trade work, the rate of abuse reporting is even lower than that of the majority. Domestic violence against women is rooted in both the micro as well as macro level with the levels being distinguishable from one another due to their differing perspectives Crystal Sheree Hamilton was a 29-year old mother, wife, daughter and victim of domestic abuse. In Jessica Pishko’s essay, “Serving Life for Surviving Abuse,” she writes about the unfortunate event that happened to Kelly Savage. Pishko focuses on why Kelly got the outcome that she did and what it means for other women. Even though this essay is written in just five short pages, it really serves as an example to show what happens to those who were victims of abuse and how the court systems handle it. Pishko thoroughly explains Kelly’s story, includes eye opening facts about women in prison, and has changed many people’s perspectives towards domestic violence. Hopefully, those who were psychically, emotionally, and sexually abused in the past will be able to seek help whether they ended up in prison or not.…

Intimate partner violence cast such a large net over our society. This is what struck by most in the power and control documentary and the Ted Talk. Intimate partner violence cuts across all backgrounds and seriocomic classes and can affect anyone no matter their status. The aspect of both the Ted Talk and the documentary I found most striking was how almost all intimate partner violence fallows the same pattern from the background of the abuser to the tactics of power and control they employ which then cycle back to impacting their children. In both the documentary and the Ted talk the background of the abusers seemed to be very similar.…

Domestic Violence uses to be something that was hidden. It was swept under the rug and never talked about.
