His character appears to be more of a villain than a hero, furthermore, it brings up the question: Why did any of the previous ‘Minutemen’ or Crimebusters’ still associate with him? Because underneath the mask of The Comedian is Edward Blake. A man with feelings and emotions, a man who understands the good and evil in life; who understands the pain the greed, and the filth that comes when evil is given room to grow. The difference between him and his comrades, is that he finds humor in the chaos, he views it as a joke that evil is growing in the city and that no one is trying to stop it. This joke is what motivates Eddie to make the evil a parody of his life so that it become the image that people see of the world. His objective is to clean up the streets and protect the people that he loves and he is uncompromising in the face of evil. This is his most important character trait because no matter what, he will go to great lengths to stop the evil and injustice of the world. The Comedian is not amoral at first, but slowly the mask is suffocating him and squeezing out every piece of morality he may have within him. Without morals, he is able to stop all kinds of evil without thinking. However, this is the mask, this is not really who Edward Blake is. In retrospect, Eddie did not want to become the monster, his only objective was to put a stop to a corrupt society, but eventually the evil that inhabited society started to slowly transform him into The Comedian. Although it may seem like The Comedian is a heartless soul who disregards morals; the man behind the mask, Eddie Blake is often misjudged for the actions of the monster he briefly became. Eddie Blake had to live with the monster he created and lodged itself within him only to reappear when the course of events brought back Eddie’s reason or putting on the mask.
Edward Blake carries the judgment that The Comedian carries. It seems like he does not try to distinguish the difference between his personal life and his masked life to people that confuse the two lives he has. Edward Blake is not an evil monster that most people think of. He is truly a hero whom people
