The north was backed by the Soviet Union and China. Naturally the US backed South Korea and used UN troops to support and push back the invading North Koreans. Leading the south’s side was Syngman Rhee a dictator while on the other side Kim Il Sung led the north. At the start of the war approximately 75,000 North Korean troops entered into South Korea. They quickly overthrew most of the country. There celebration was short because US forces landed in Inchon the south in September. Within the month they retook Seoul and started to push the north’s troops out of the south. General MacArthur led the US troops during the Korean War. MacArthur got a little greedy when he started to push into the north with support of the South Korean troops. This is when china decided to step in because they saw it as an act of aggression towards the country. MacArthur was beating the north’s troops back on all sides. This gave room for peace talks as the north couldn’t attack and the US troops were being held back by President Truman. The Russians decided to try and stay as far away as they could from this war. Instead of giving troops they gave the north diplomatic support, logistics support, and they helped plan the invasion of South Korea. The main help from Russia came from there aircraft. They helped train the pilots and gave them the planes to fight against the souths and their supporters. Russia had no involvement nearby
