Improved Essays
In our world human beings do not usually act like animals, some people say in words that we have class and know how to act . Like the rich and popular they know how to keep calm and act like a normal human being without getting carried away. There are common ways for human beings to get things carried away even the rich and famous. Those ways are not as crazy as what Pi had to encounter. Pi definitely had animal behavior by the food he eats and interacting with Richard Parker.

One animal behavior was when Pi was stranded with Richard Parker at sea. It was hard to keep calm because he had to make sure to distract Richard Parker from eating him. Pi distance himself away from Richard Parker for safety reasons Pi did the same as

Pi was able to train and get respect from Richard Parker by giving him consequences. Such as blowing a whistle while rocking the boat, which led Richard Parker to get sick, dizzy and scared of Pi. There were trials of which Pi had to deal with to get to the point to tame him. Pi used a turtle shell to protect him from Richard Parker charged after him. The first four times it failed and Pi fell in the water because Richard Parker came after him. But the fifth time was a charm when Pi blowed the whistle and rocked the boat and Richard Parker became seasick. Human beings also have to deal with “fearsome creatures” . For example a young boy was kidnap and was lucky to be alive after he was kidnapped from his own driveway. The kidnapper released him after he sang one of his favorite gospel songs. This was huge and inspirational to stand up to someone he was afraid of but did it in his ability as a nine year old. Just like Pi when he was afraid of Richard Parker but found a way to keep it together and …show more content…
With Pi and his situations he had no choice but to do things he did which was to survive. With humans we have a choice to do right but intend on not caring. Which leads to consequences that we have to pay by law. Humans can be carried away for even more things with animal behavior. Like Black Friday shopping which is huge, security has to everywhere because people take it too serious and others may end up hurt. Another one is meeting a famous person and going crazy because you’re inspired so much. Lastly when things that are new come up and everyone wants it people go crazy for that one item. We should start having a difference and act like humans than

At the age of only eight years, Piscine’s father had taught him how dangerous a tiger could be when he made Pi observe a goat being eaten by one. This explains Pi’s future fear of being near a tiger. When the ship had sunk, Pi attempted to save the life of Richard Parker, a tiger, by helping him to the lifeboat. Once he had regained all sanity, Pi tried to prevent the tiger from boarding the lifeboat. After the tiger had made it on to the lifeboat and some time had passed, Pi tried to figure out a way to kill Richard Parker.…

This quote describes Pi's opinion on freedom. He describes freedom the ability to exercise free will with one's time, space, and relations. Animals and anyone's life that is always threatened do not have this free will. MONKEYLUV: A CRITICAL REVIEW As I picked up picked up my AP Psychology required reading, Monkeyluv by Robert Sapolsky, I wondered what on earth animal behavior could have to do with human psychology. The idea that we could draw connections between the conduct of mice and humans escaped me; I had forgotten that humans were, in fact, animals. Sapolsky does his best to drive this point home as he humorously, yet intellectually, illustrates the idea that humans and animals are often more similar than we’d like to admit, and how by studying their behavior, we might better understand our own. Just who exactly is this man to be shattering my worldview?…

Right Leg Bravery is shown within Simon when he trekked up the mountain by himself, despite the supposed sighting of the beast from the other boys. “Like an old man, through Simon’s “stagger” shown by his “glum determination” (Golding 146). Because “the beast was harmless”, it does not possess any physical threats since it’s a dead body, yet “horrible” in a way that it invoked fear into the group of boys (147). On the other hand, the “usual brightness from [Simon’s] eye” is gone which could represent how the good nature of the boys is being overpowered by their own inner beast (146). Not being wavered by fear, unlike the others, Simon overcomes it; therefore he understood the impact of their fear of the beast on them.…

Yann Martel’s way of showing us the difficulty of Pi’s story is through portraying Pi as a savage tiger. This is because starvation can bring out the animal side out of anyone and most definitely alter our usual selves into becoming less civilized due to isolation and nothingness. Even through everything, Pi “tames” Richard Parker possibly meaning that he manages to overcome losing himself and keeping his mental state sane. I also believe that Richard Parker could symbolize Pi’s will to live and also his survival instincts. It can be said that Life of Pi has many possible themes, but I believe the author wanted to tell his readers the importance of being able to tell a story and to have faith.…

The Contrast Between Animality and Humanity in The Island of Doctor Moreau and Life of Pi One of the major cultural anxieties that prevails in society is the relationship between humans and animals and the distinction between humanity and animality. Humans are often depicted as being a higher form of animal, most commonly induced by religious practices. However, upon isolation or fear of death, the human thought process tends to revert to what is associated to animal-like behaviour. Humans tend to separate themselves from animal life forms as animals are seen as vicious, brutish and capable of committing acts that humans refrain from. Because of this cultural anxiety, much of literature embodies the ideology of animality and humanity and the…

Pi also claims that he found and stayed on a carnivorous floating island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Using logic and reason, what a rationalistic atheist would use, one could recognize that an island like this cannot possibly exist. The second story Pi tells, where he is Richard Parker the tiger, is the one that is true. In the human story, Pi’s savagery of killing the cook and eating him, unfortunately shows the survival skills that Pi needed to use in order to survive. Here, Pi took charge of the situation, and by using his previous knowledge of the sea, and survival tactics, he was able to live the rest of his life on land.…

Pi better understands the actions of animals than he does of people. He basically says this before he even ends up in a lifeboat on page 53 where Yann Martel describes Pi thinking about the Christian religion in which Jesus dies for other’s sins “Humanity sins but it’s God’s Son who pays the price? I tried to imagine father saying to me, “Piscine, a lion slipped into the llama pen today and killed two llamas…”. As you can see Pi immediately compares something he doesn’t understand about humans to something he does understand about animals.…

This world has a cultural bias that has spread land to land into the minds and hearts of almost every person. This bias is hurting everyone, and forcing a sense of false optimism and blinding us to the truth. This bias says that people are at their own personal fault for not being happy and it is killing the varied emotions that have grown through evolution to help the human species survive. The idea that a person should be happy, simply because another person is worse off is hurting everyone.…

Ethics is defined as Rules of behavior based on ideas about what is morally good and bad. I believe it is unethical for humans to cause pain to animals unless strictly for consumption or vital purposes. I believe it is morally right for animals to have a certain level of protection against animal cruelty. People argue that animals do not have the autonomy that human beings have and there for should not be provided rights. Such people believe that animals were only placed on Earth strictly for human use, that they cannot be rational or experience emotions, and lack autonomy.…

The popular online quiz originally appeared in a book, “The Animal in You” by Roy Feinson and divides into carnivores, herbivores, rodents, insects and birds. Feinson area of expertise, zoology, inspired the test; his passion for the inter relationship between animals and humans shaped the 9 question quiz that uses mathematical principals based on personal data that produces connections between those tested and specific animals. This shows how when given enough time, an individual will adapt to any situation put into, thus every life is interchangeable. Eventually, Pi went from being a kind vegetarian, respectful of all life, to a person who commonly hunted and killed animals to stay alive. However, since Pi must do these everyday tasks to live, it became part of his daily routine and he began to tolerate such a change. In addition to adapting his ways of survival, Pi’s attitude towards animals also changed to correspond with his situation, “The everyman Pi is naked before a superbly engineered predator--he needs to establish dominance.…

Pi is stuck with Richard Parker, a bengal tiger. Tigers are territorial animals, and like to mark their territory. Pi would have been in great danger if he didn’t decide to tame RP, because the tiger would have ultimately believed it was superior to Pi and would have attempted to kill him for being in his space. Therefore, Pi took a role quite similar to his Father’s back in India and took charge of the situation, taming RP with a whistle, and over time, becoming the dominant being out of the two of them. This helped Pi avoid not only being eaten alive, but also gaining a relationship with RP as he was no longer afraid of him, and could find comfort and companionship instead.…
