To prevent any cases of wrongful termination from a spiteful employee, one must have clear examples, reasons and accounts on why he/she is being fired. Showing one’s employee why he/she is being fired can also show them the skills that they need to become better at for a different job. After one has reflected and made a decision about firing an employee it is best to do it right away instead of putting it off. Sometimes firing an employee comes as a surprise to them, but most of the time they can see it coming if the manager has be giving them warnings. One must be sure to not make a scene while calling the employee into his/her office, humiliating someone in front of their peers will make the employee being terminated to become angrier and will increase the chances of a lawsuit. Joe Kennedy suggests in his book, that when one terminates the employee it is important to have another witness around who can testify that the manager has met all the legal requirements and that the employee understands why he/she is being laid-off. Another thing that Kennedy mentions is to show no emotion while firing an employee, yet as a Christian manager it is important to show that one cares for their employee. Providing severance packages or offering to write a letter of recommendation for one’s employee shows that one cares about the employee and their future even without the company. Showing an employee that one cares for the person and his/her future is key as a Christian manager. It shows that as a manager, one not only cares for their employee’s performances, but also for the employee himself.
