In the Brutal Memoir of Night by Elie Wiesel and the far-reaching graphic memoir of Maus by Art Spiegelman, brutality of the Germans is Shown in the Holocaust against the Jews. The main Characters in night differ in ways of surviving as one of them survive through ordinary human instincts and the other through his intelligent and being practical. As they also differ in taking risks; in Night, there was no sign of risk taking but in Maus Spiegelman shows elevated levels of risk taking in different ways. Spiegelman and Wiesel approach to similar aspects in the way Jews change Due to brutality.

Spiegelman shows many situations that Vladek risked his life for dignity, hunger also for his and Anja’s life. he risked his resources to save his friend’s life. Also, Vladek used to think about the people around him as Vladek gave up all the valuables he had to his cousin to save Anja’s parents and smuggle them out of the camp even though this is a very risky action if they were caught they would have been hanged for it, though Anja’s parents did not make it out anyways. Furthermore, Vladek helped Madelbaum to get back his spoon and he got him a belt and a pair of wooden shoes. In comparison Wiesel does not show Eliezer taking risks as much as Vladek we only see him risking his life for his father and his golden tooth. A doctor wanted to take Eliezer’s tooth for himself but Eliezer took the risk and kept lying about him being sick and not being able to do the procedure. Another Jew, Frenek, wants Wiesel’s gold crown. Wiesel initially refuses, but Frenek persists, he started beat his father to force Wiesel to yield. He knows Wiesel’s love of his father is his “weak point”. Therefore, Eliezer sacrifices his gold crown to appease Frenek. Clearly Eliezer only risks his life for his father.
