Oscar’s character is shaped up based on his attempts to find love. In one of these attempts, Yunior, a close friend of Oscar’s family, states, “He just kept hitting on her with absolutely no regard for self” (Diaz 183). Oscar thought he had fallen in love with La Jablesse; however she did not feel the same way. This rejection led to Oscar attempting suicide. However life gave him a second chance that Oscar undoubtedly took. This second chance was him persevering at finding love. Oscar discovered he was not ready to give up his hopes of a happy ending and an accomplished love. Oscar moved on from his past still with his goal in mind and at heart. He might of attempted suicide, but he took the second chance he was offered. At the end of the day, this rejection made Oscar persevere in his goal to attain love, making him a determined and accomplished person.
