Cure Violence www.cureviolence.org Cure Violence is an organization founded by epidemiologist Gary Slutkin. Dr. Slutkin spent a decade in underdeveloped countries, fighting epidemic diseases. When he returned to the US, he’d all but forgotten what it was like to have running water, and adjustable temperature in the home. He also had no news of the US, so he found it both dismaying and compelling to hear about the rampant violence in some parts of the US, most especially in Chicago, Illinois. As a result, Dr. Slutkin began researching the violence problem in the same way that he tracked infectious diseases in those other countries, and he found that the trajectories were the same.…

Football is a tough sport. It seems as if every time a game is played there is at least one or two hard hits, sometimes even more. This is largely due to the fact that spectators are blinded by coaches, officials, and players from the serious side effects and repercussions. Only recently has the public population found that there are more harsh and serious long term side effects from football than we have been led to believe.…

Domestic Violence in the NFL has become a terrible problem over the years, it has escalated and the NFL is having a difficult time controlling it. Dating back to the O.J Simpson trial in 1994, the NFL had no plan for these types of cases. The old NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue thought that if it didn’t happen on the field it didn’t affect the NFL organization (Barrabi). Imagine that kind of a response now? Our society would be outraged more than they already are about this issue.…
