Liesel lives on 33 Himmel Street. Most of the book takes place during World War II.
2) Tone: The whole book has a dark, cynical, and depressing environment. Death is everywhere and no one is safe.
3) Style: The novel has death narrating the story. Through out the book he foreshadows what the story is about and sometimes even flat outs spoils the story. Death makes you think that there is nothing in the end but he tricks you. The book itself has lots of glimmers of hope.
4) Theme: The themes in the book thief are, wars, identity, and suffering. Most of the book revolves around war. It takes place during World War II. The war shaped the lives of every single character in the story, for the worse. Identity is another big one if you're a Jewish person you know that you're not safe in the world. You have to hide just to stay alive. Suffering happens throughout the entire book. For example, on the first chapter you can see Liesel’s brother die. Even later the whole Hubermann family dies.
5) The point of View: The whole story is narrated through the eyes of death and follows a girl named Liesel Meminger.

The story is narrated by death and takes place before, during, and after World War II. Liesel is an orphan who has been adopted by Hans and Rosa Hubermann in the fictional city of Molching, Germany. Her brother dies on the way there and is buried. She then steals the first book called the Grave Digger's Handbook. While her stay at the Hubermanns’ she learns to read from Mr. Hans. She then meets Rudy Steiner, the neighbor who has fallen for her. At a book burning, she realizes that her father and mother are killed by the Nazi’s. Soon after, Max Vandenburg, a Jewish man hiding from the Nazi’s in the Hubermann basement. They both become close and find that they are similar. After, Mr. Huberman publicly gives bread to a Jew on his way to a concentration camp. He is then sent to work in the military. Then max has to leave. While she was writing her story in the basement of the Hubermann household, everyone else died because of an air raid that kills: Hans, Rosa, Rudy, and everyone else in the neighborhood. Liesel survives the war and so does Max. We see her later as a 76-year-old woman with many children and
