The Big 5 personality traits refer to openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism, which can influence a person’s performance in various areas. The Big Five personality traits, is a way to describe human nature by five main categories (Goldberg, 1993). The term “big five” was initially related to natural language by Lewis Goldberg, an American personality psychologist, and then it came into the use of personality test. Developed by Robert McCrae and Paul Costa, Five-Factor Theory explained the total five figures systematically and brought a biological account of personality traits (Srivastava, n.d.). The idea of leader connotes images of influential individuals mastering great power requiring teams pursuing a noble cause. The role of leader assumes a certain level of responsibility to achieve success, which means conscientiousness. The leader may have creative freedom concerning how they choose to lead; however, the fact remains that the leader is ultimately responsible. Responsible for engaging followers, showing initiative, motivating, inspiring, problem-solving, establishing goals, pursuing tasks, assessing the situation, and processing information among other things. As for agreeableness, Graziano and Eisenberg (1997) report various conceptions of agreeableness throughout the last century including ‘social interest, ' ‘friendly compliance, ' ‘likeability’, and ‘possessing a friendly disposition. ' In a team, it would seem that agreeable leaders are more successful at accessing thoughts and ‘turning the other cheek’ in aggressive-inducing situations (Meier et al., …show more content…
As is known to us all, globalization is a trend that everyone is involved. Global business is the activities include both international (cross-border) activities and domestic activities. Such deliberate blurring of the traditional boundaries separating international and national business is increasingly important today, because many previously national (local) markets are now globalized. Here comes the question: Assume you are a manager of a firm, how can you deal with the global business? Or, can you perceive this liberal tendency? If you do not have the quality of neuroticism, that is a terrible thing for you. The need for expatriate managers, managers who work abroad, is increasing rapidly. Even if you do not aspire to compete for the top job at a large firm or work overseas, and even if you work at a small business or are self-employed, you may find yourself that you have to deal with foreign-owned suppliers and buyers, competing with foreign-invested firms in your home market, and perhaps even selling and investing
