The Benefits Of Outsourcing America

Decent Essays
Outsourcing America, in my opinion, has been bad, as someone who was a displaced worker at one time due to the company that I worked for closing down and moving to Mexico. The benefits of outsourcing have been enormous. For workers in poverty ridden countries, it has meant jobs and fast rising standards of living. For some industries, lower labor costs have brought higher profits. Modern consumers are enjoying access to more goods at lower prices. The price of the product would have cost more if manufactured or produced in the United States. However, with the unskilled labor force dwindling down many people find themselves in poverty. Individuals in poverty cannot afford to go out and spend money unnecessarily if no one is spending money

‘The death of distance: Outsourcing, white collar exodus’ film involves many companies moving their call centers and contracts to foreign countries, this is called outsourcing. They particularly look at areas in southern Asia, for example countries like India, Malaysia, etc. This is a lot cheaper for big companies because it allows them to cut their wage salary lower because the quality of living is lower in LEDC’S (less economically developed countries). United States of America is a MEDC (more economically developed country), this means if a lot of companies are outsourcing to south Asian countries this can have a negative impact on globalization of the United States. This is due to outsourcing, and this is because of major companies setting up their call centers in other countries than USA.…

Countries like India and China are ahead of the United States in education and could be more qualified for the jobs Americans are trying to obtain with the degrees earned in the United States. Also, outsourcing to foreign countries can save business thousands, if not millions of dollars. Jobs can be outsourced and the American employee will be left unemployed. Alan Blinder says, “ You can’t hammer a nail over the Internet.” (Page 396)…

Although there are many positive reasons as to why companies have decided to start outsourcing certain jobs there are many negative results to this practice. A company that decides to outsource certain services runs a significant danger of exposing confidential information to other third-party companies; sensitive information such as payroll, internal services and intellectual property rights become accessible to foreign labor workers. This access to sensitive information runs a great danger since the employee overseas does not have to abide by the same laws that are applied back in the…

When a company bases their factory outside of the United States, they often do so in order to produce at a lower cost. Since the shoes, or computers, or any good for that matter, is produced at a lower cost, the company can afford to lower its prices. Trade does not solely benefit American and the country’s consumers, however. Poor countries gain a lot from trade such as access to markets in the developing world, a road to a richer country and the potential to branch out. Trade gives these poor countries the opportunity to sell to a larger, more expansive market, giving them an opportunity to make more money.…

If U.S. businesses are attempting to reduce costs by substituting machinery for labor or by using foreign labor to produce their products. This would affect American consumer by causing the product the consumers are buying to cost less and there would have been a large amount of the products to meet their demands. Using machines and individuals outside of the country for labor can affect the American workers by causing a large amount of individual to be lay off for their jobs. It would also be hard for the workers to be able to feed and take care of their families.…

I think we always joke about how everything is made in China, but that joke becomes more real every day. It is more than a joke and has been a real tragedy that has affected the American economy and American workers. While many agree that offshoring is good for consumers, it also has caused many people to lose their jobs, which likely decreases consumption for those who lost their jobs, which in turn creates an even greater negative effect on our nation’s economy, since less people are spending money. While I love shopping for low prices, I believe corporations have taken it too far in focusing on their bottom line. Businesses mark up products to unbelievable amounts regardless of labor costs, so I am not completely convinced that labor being cheaper makes products cheaper, especially because of all the extra shipping costs to bring the products to the United States to be distributed.…
