Free trade and globalization have propelled the world forward since the 20th century, and have thus been encouraged by the leading economies of the world. Major worldwide institutions such as the World Trade organization, the World Bank, and the International Monetary Funds promote free trade across the globe. Largely, these institutions believe free trade ameliorates poverty on a global scale and is the key to bettering human life in the future. However, in recent years there has been a shift in the mindset behind the benefits that free trade and globalization have to offer. The shifting mindset is apparent in regards to the United Kingdom’s exit from the European Union and President Donald Trump's agenda and proposed economic policies. There is merit on both sides of the issue and it will take time for countries to understand to what degree free trade and globalization are

With that being said, the forces of globalization and free trade on the world are more good then bad because of the increase in number of jobs, decrease in poverty and inequality, boosting of competition, and worldwide increase in access to technology that many countries would otherwise not be able to produce
