The truth is, breast milk has always been the superior cuisine for babies, and while labs behind formula companies have painstakingly tried to mimic human mothers milk, artificial infant formula will never be the same and will forever remain inferior and flawed. To no surprise, the American Academy of Pediatrics, alongside most infant and women’s health organizations, recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life. Typically when a formula fed baby catches a bug, their pediatrician will prescribe an antibiotic to fight the illness, while breastfeeders have their natural immune cells built into their food supply. Studies show that, because of these proactive antibodies, breastfed babies have a much lower risk of contracting ailments such as ear infections, allergies, respiratory illness, intestinal disorders, urinary tract infections, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), and many others. With an infant who is sick less often, a working mother will miss less time at work, incur fewer visits to the doctor, and overall will skip the stress of caring for a sick child. Breast milk is liquid gold. Breastfeeding also promotes a growing attachment between mother and child. This relationship is essential for healthy psychological development. Babies need to feel protected and soothed. The closeness of breastfeeding is comforting and reassuring to a infant, new to this unfamiliar world.
