The Beast: A Narrative Fiction

The breeze that flows from the window prickles at my skin causing goosebumps. It licks at my arms sending shivers through my body. The wind suddenly lets out a howl pretending to be in pain. Pretending to act hurt. I almost thought for a second that an animal sat outside yelling in pain at a recent battle wound because no one would truly accept it, so instead they pushed them away. Again a cold hand reaches out and sends me into a fit of shivers. I rub my arms trying to bring the warmth back to them. Subconsciously I move my hand down to my wrist where I run my fingers across the scars. I get the feeling something or someone is watching me. The feeling makes me feel colder than any night alone could ever. Still with my eyes closed I reach …show more content…
My eyes fluttered open and a pale ghost-like face stared back at me. Whatever or whoever it was reeked, not only of death, but also of something I couldn’t identify. When the smell had reached my nose I couldn’t help but gag a little. My blade was still stuck in the side of its head where a sickening crack was forming down the center of the skull. I lay still as I let my gaze wander to the eyes of the creature. A dark and unforgiving look was held in the face of the animal. It looked like something out of a horror movie. Mercy was something I didn’t show often. And I didn’t show it now. After looking at the bloody mess and still not quite knowing what I had killed, I watched as the last drop of dark liquid left the body and I fell into a fitful sleep.
I hadn’t bothered to clean the mess up last night so I woke to a burning in my nostrils. I didn’t remember the body smelling that bad. Outside the window revealed a gray sort of dark. Small amounts of light were let in, but not enough to see from. I patiently waited in the dark for the sun to leak in through the

I look down to find a dead rat by my side. My leg lay in a puddle of it’s blood. I cringed while moving back a little to put distance in between our bodies. It was turned on its back with the knife still sticking out of its head. A pool of blood formed around it staining everything it touched. I gave it a cold glare as I got up to clean the clutter.
I was getting up when I stopped and turned back to the body. Carefully I pull the knife from the animal making a gruesome noise as I did. I almost threw it at the wall when I saw how much blood was on the metal.
It deserved it. I thought. Then another thought struck me leaving me gaping. If I fell out of bed why is my knife down here with me? Could I have..? No. Quickly I shook my head ridding it of my question, but that left room for other questions. I always hated that about myself. Once I got rid of one demon two more replaced it. My thoughts were my demons. Possessing me. Making me question right from wrong. I tried keeping myself busy so I wouldn’t have time to think, but they always found a way into my head. Waiting for me to open the door that let them in so they could seal out all the light until none
