The assassination of Osama Bin Laden(OBL) on May 2 , 2011 will be remembered as one of the most painstaking & complicated Intelligence covert operations of our times . The hunt for OBL was massive & relentless in the aftermath of September 11,2001 attacks which he acknowledged to have planned , financed and executed . For the subsequent decade that followed the shocking attacks , OBL seized every opportunity to rejoice over murdering thousands of innocent lives and the destruction he caused .
His assassination covert operation , code named "Neptune Spear", although led by the CIA"1", but was a joint clandestine undertaking which necessitated the participation of many branches of the armed services . To determine what contributed to the success , or failure , of this covert operation , code-named Operation Neptune Spear, , a thorough examination of the role of participating collection disciples will be in order . As such , an in-depth look into the blend of those collection disciplines"3" will address specifically the participation of HUMINT , SIGINT , GEOINT , MASINT and OSINT . Ultimately , the paper will seek to identify how the individual contribution of any of those collection disciplines factored -in in the overall outcome . Needless to to mention those contributions would be featured as part of the overall analysis that will address planning & execution phases
