During it colonists in the Thirteen American Colonies rejected the British crown and founded the new, independent United States of America. It was the world superpower vs farmers and the farmers won. The story of the American Revolution is the original American underdog story. But the British could have won with 3 different choices.
The first wrong choice they made was the Boston Massacre in 1770. A group of British soldiers shot into a crowd of rioting colonists. This led to colonist propaganda that made it look like 40 plus people are killed rather than the few that did (document 4). This rallied a bunch of colonists to rebellion that started a chain of events that led to the war.
