There are many professional nursing organizations in the United States of America amongst which are National Nurses United (NNU), American Nurses Association (ANA), the Association of Nurse Executives (AONE), the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AANC), the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), Sigma Theta Tau, National Students Association etc… However having visited some of these organizational websites, I picked interest on American Nurses Association (ANA), because it initiates and regulates professional standards and code of ethics, besides according to Kelly and Tazbir, “The American Nurses Association is the only full service professional organization representing nursing interest both new graduates and experienced …show more content…
Once one joins an organization like this one, you will obviously feel that you are part of the greater movement, something you haven’t previously experienced in the past and student life or nursing career. This is a great feeling which leads to motivation and higher satisfaction in the profession of nursing. Support: When you join ANA, you are automatically accessible to a personal and professional support system of other professionals who share their same interests and concerns like yours. When you are a member of ANA, you will be connected to a local chapter of nurses and so when you attend meetings and sees other peers, it reminds us that we are not alone, and this support network leads to sharing of knowledge and uplifting one …show more content…
Organizations like ANA provide continuing education from accredited journals and authors such as the Nursing World, and The Nursing Knowledge Center. Personal and professional development: There are various positions within the ANA organization which nurses can take up on. There are also some committees available in professional organizations which one can venture into. Holding a position and being active is a great way to increase your visibility, develop confidence, and hone your leadership and communication skills.
