Back then, hard work was the key to a wealthy and good life which includes, a perfect family, good education, equal opportunity and a nice home. One parent would stay home to look after the children while the other is out working hard to earn money to feed the family. At night, he/she would come home from work and as the whole family eats dinner together at their dining table, they would talk about how their days were. A perfect life would also include equal opportunity for everyone. The American Dream is definitely one of the many reasons why people came to America, to achieve the dream. They believe that by coming to America, it would enable them to have the opportunities they need in order to have a better life; an opportunity they could not find back in their home countries. However, that is no longer affordable for many Americans. Back in the past, this component of the American dream can be achieved as people’s idea of a good vacation is probably a day at the beach or a picnic in the part. Today, it cost a family of four to spend around $4,720 (Eskow). This number seems impossible for some family that have low income. That is why I think the American Dream is dead, many people can no longer work hard and earn money to make their life more comfortable
