According to the basic definition one finds in the Oxford dictionary, an individual is a person considered separately rather than as a part of a group. The individual cannot exist alone. I recall my primary teacher telling the classroom that famous phrase of “no man is an island”. I could not understand the exact meaning of it until I grew up and realised that none of us can live by himself. Everyone needs the company of others. When I got to understand that, I started learning more about what it means to live in a society. I remember my primary teacher explaining to us the definition of “a society”. I could relate well to the definition she gave us. Years passed by from then. I started to understand better the importance of living in a society. Meeting new people and making new friends made a big difference in my life. I spent the first twelve years of my life socializing in a much different way than today. So what was it that happened and that affected so much my way and all the socializing methods of many? Everything boils down to the introduction of new technology, especially the invention of the different social media. Everyone and everywhere got influenced by these new methods of socialization. At first it was only the young ones who started experimenting with this new technology but as the time went by it seemed that everyone got interested and everyone wanted to be on the social media. Social media can be considered as a vital part of today's society. The amount of social networks is increasing rapidly with user bases larger than the population of most countries. The amount of sites that already exist are already enough to meet every person's very own special interest. There are web sites to share pictures, videos, status updates, sites for getting to know and make friends with new people and sites to connect with old friends. It seems there are social solutions to what all the individuals are in search

The article I wrote my essay on, “Is Facebook Making Us Lonely” argues the effects of social media sites and how it has caused people to separate farther apart instead of coming together. The author believes “We have never been more detached from one another, or lonelier. In a world consumed by ever more novel modes of socializing, we have less and less actual society.” (pg.3). I think that the article gives several statistical analysis to show the reader that the current society is slowly becoming less and less real.…

Studies and research has shown that teenagers all over America have a link to social media in some way or another. More specifically, the challenge, “A Day Without Media”, has shown a major dependency by college students on the use of cellphones, Twitter, Facebook, and media of every kind. By spending twenty four hours without social media, students suffer from a feeling of isolation, they realize how much the web impacts their connections, and from my own experience, created a realization of how much of social media has become an addiction.…

Some people only talk to someone for a couple of minutes and call them their friends, unlike in past becoming or making new friends wasn’t that easy or fast. The friends that we make through social media does not hold the same value as it used too. In short, the invention of social media has changed the value of…

Human beings have eternally been built for connection. Throughout our time, the growth and demise of different civilizations, we’ve always been apart of a greater group, family, or community that has not allowed us to be lonely singularities. Simultaneously, philosophers have also emphasized to us the importance and value of independent thinking and meaningful solitude. To hold oneself apart from society, is to begin to think one 's way beyond it. In the today that we live in, we tend to beg for validation from anyone and everyone who may offer- family, friend, lovers- and in recent decades, we’ve extended our efforts to acquaintances, friends of friends, and not uncommonly- total strangers.…
