1. You may ask what McDonaldization is. McDonaldization is defined as, “the process by which the principles of the fast-food restaurant are coming to dominate more and more sectors of American society as well as the rest of the world.” This paper will discuss two different cafes which conduct the same matter of business, however one business conducts more like the principles of “McDonaldization” compared to the other business which is a local café in Dubuque that is more traditional (has a less emphasis on the formal rationality). So my one McDonaldizated café is “Starbucks” and my other café is the “Rubix.” “Starbucks” is a good example of McDonaldization, because they exchanged hand ground coffee with automatic espresso machines and also …show more content…
The advantages that one could see in McDonaldization in today’s modern society is how quickly a task can be done, so customers get the food they predictability want and get onto the next task they have for their busy life. Furthermore, to achieve predictability, a rationalized society emphasizes discipline, order, routine, and consistency operations. Which in return offers control over the situation or people. A disadvantage of McDonaldization would be the quality of the product, because fast-food restaurants simplify products. For example, instead of using healthier food, the company will buy the cheapest food to cook faster meals. Fewer ingredients for the meal the simpler to prepare, serve, and eat. Thus not having the traditional restaurant quality, where there is preparation going into every ingredient. Though in a traditional restaurant a customer cannot always calculate the amount of time it is going to take to receive their meal, they will receive a meal with quality (which is worth the wait). I’m more likely to visit a traditional restaurant because of the healthier benefits of the food. I don’t like eating fast-food due the unhealthy aspect. Likewise, I grew up with home cooked food and eating out wasn’t a frequent occurrence. Though, when eating out, we went to more family owned business, but we would sometime choose more of a McDonalized restaurant because we didn’t have time for the traditional restaurant. My family grew up on home cooked meals because that was the only time we had to talk and be a family due to all our busy lifestyles.
8. As I see McDonaldization within society I don’t see the positive dimension. I only see the negative doing a motion over and over again dissembles the brain and train of thought. For there is no streak of creativity or imagination there is only one and one objective to do. People are like mindless robots doing whatever their boss tells them to do.
