The A & P Quitting Analysis

I believe that Sammy made the right choice in quitting, through the story you get a feeling that Sammy does not enjoy working at his job. The way he describes the customers as sheep, he is complaining and nitpicking because he no long wish to work and the girls gave him a reason to quit. I feel as if Sammy would quit unless he could find a reason to do so. He goes on to defend the girls because they gave him the ability to quit and they personify the life he wants to live.

Sammy is not wealthy, he comes from a working-class family who helped him get his job at the A&P. He lives in a small town and his action of quitting would spread around making it harder for him to get a job in town. So, Sammy will have to travel outside of town to find a job now. The decision to quit the A&P has made his life more difficult. The reason for Sammy quitting all started with a group of girls who entered the supermarket That Sammy and Stoksie could not look away from.

Sammy is a young man trying to figure out life, working at a job he hates, and has no responsibility. While on the other hand Stoksie is older than Sammy, married and has two children, Stoksies plan is to become manager of the A&P. Stoksie has responsibilities as a married man and a father that he need to provide for his family rather than Sammy who only needs to focus on himself. Sammy has the freedom to quit his A&P without having any serious consequences that would affect him as it would affect
