One ritual my family experiences is having an early Thanksgiving dinner and watching the Dallas Cowboys game. The tradition starts late on the night before thanksgiving. We start by ordering pizza, and then we begin prepping dinner for Thanksgiving Day. My sister and I prepare the side dishes, while my mother, aunt and grandmother make all the main dishes and desserts. We usually stay up all night finishing dinner prep, watching television, and cracking jokes.…

Every year on Thanksgiving break I have gone to my grandparents house to stay for the week. For me this is important because my grandparents live a good ways away and I barely get to see them. This became a tradition when I moved away from where they live because that's when our other traditions ended like on wednesdays we used to meet somewhere and eat dinner but we can’t do that any more so we thought that Thanksgiving break is a good time to go see them because we have off school and they can get off work. The whole time we are up there we laugh cook and have fun together.…

What was once a peasant's meal now blesses the kitchens of many five star restaurants, but most importantly my own kitchen. Potatoes were originally eaten for a daily dosage of vitamin A and calcium, causing them to be considered a necessity instead of a luxury. Even though potatoes are not as prevalent as they once were to my Irish heritage, potatoes represent much more than a side on a plate.…

In America they would gather to celebrate Thanksgiving and they will do so at the dinner table. The meal, with roots in the ancient traditions of harvest festivals and in the religious fervor of the Puritans who settled here, has grown into a secular feast of abundance. So here’s the thing: while it is an iconic food, no one would argue that a roast turkey is the American national dish – turkey on multigrain for lunch aside. Plopping a turkey on an overladen table is reserved almost solely for this day.…
