According to Google, gratitude is a quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return the kindness. Every year families all over the United States sit around at a dining table and have a big dinner, which includes being thankful for the wonderful things that happened to them throughout the year. Many are thankful for the new job they got, their parents always supporting them, a baby being born into the family, dad getting a raise finally after three years, or the first family vacation they took this summer, and the list can go on forever. Just like everyone else, I am thankful to have supportive friends and family who are always there for me, and enabling me to feel like I have everything that I need and I wouldn't ask for more. Each year during Tihar (5-days-long Nepali festival) we go out to play deusi celebrating all the joyous things that happened to us throughout the year. Prior to this year, I did not have any Nepali friend to go out with, I stayed home often watching others playing deusi and having fun via social medias such as snapchat stories and facebook videos. This year I knew a bunch of girls who were already in a large group, and they had invited me to be a part of their deusi group. We sang top of our lungs, trying to excite the house owner, and making them to dance along with us. The songs we sang and danced to brought my memories of Nepal that I had forgotten over 8 years. Three days of deusi reminded me of a popular Nepali song verse - “ jay gara jaso gara, jata sukai laijau malai, yo maan ta mero Nepali ho” (which loosely translates to - no matter what you do to me and where you take me, my heart stays
