Each year during Tihar (5-days-long Nepali festival) we go out to play deusi celebrating all the joyous things that happened to us throughout the year. Prior to this year, I did not have any Nepali friend to go out with, I stayed home often watching others playing deusi and having fun via social medias such as snapchat stories and facebook videos. This year I knew a bunch of girls who were already in a large group, and they had invited me to be a part of their deusi group. We sang top of our lungs, trying to excite the house owner, and making them to dance along with us. The songs we sang and danced to brought my memories of Nepal that I had forgotten over 8 years. Three days of deusi reminded me of a popular Nepali song verse - “ jay gara jaso gara, jata sukai laijau malai, yo maan ta mero Nepali ho” (which loosely translates to - no matter what you do to me and where you take me, my heart stays

Even though I had trouble with my gratitude journal entries, I enjoyed the act of doing it and what benefits I received. Before this specific practice, I thought I was a good example of someone who had great positive emotion. Although, after my experience I realized I externalize some of my disappointments which create negative emotions. I would often think about those negative feelings while I was laying down and it would make it difficult to sleep. I would blame the traffic for being late instead of saying I should have left earlier.…

This strength is one I find to be beneficial in good and bad situations, as it makes the good situations better and it helps me to see that even in the bad situations I am still blessed. I do my best to make sure my friends and family are always aware of how grateful I am for them and the love they bring into my life. This is a strength I rely on greatly, especially now as I have moved ten hours away from my entire family, it is even more important that they understand how grateful I am for them. I find gratitude is beneficial to my emotional health because being grateful helps me to begin a cycle of feeling positive emotions which makes me feel more peace and positivity in my…
