In “Thank you, M’am” by Langston Hughes, there is a boy who tries to steal Mrs. Jones purse, but when he tries to steal it, it’s too heavy and he falls over. The boy is very scared that she will call the police, but instead she brings him to her house and takes care of him.
I think Mrs. Jones was doing the right thing when she helped him out. You can tell the boy has a hard life when the author says, “He looked as if he were fourteen or fifteen, frail and willow-wild” (110). From this sentence you can assume the boy might be homeless or doesn’t have a family to take care of him. By taking him in she was probably helping him become a better person. Once they get to her house she makes him food and has him wash his face. You can tell that the
