Thank you so much for your patience. Just to give you both a heads up, Ben will be playing in church on Sunday. You are invited to come at 1pm (probably won't play until about 1:30pm) at the LDS church across from Castle Rock Park. He has a deep love of music and it has really helped him get through when he no longer felt things were worth living. He will be playing O come, O come Emmanuel (the piano guys version).

The Junior Instrumental Recital took place in the Corley Auditorium in Webster on Tuesday March 15. The performers were Paige Burris, clarinet and Tyler, trumpet assisted by Kathy Nenadal & Debra Snodgrass piano and Cheryl Cotter, clarinet. I enjoyed when Tyler Jones, Trumpet performed the atmosphere was very calm. The pitch of some of the sounds were very low and some of them were very upbeat. The harmony of the slow songs he played were incredibly beautiful.…

Apologetic Analysis of Mormonism The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, commonly referred to as Mormons, began as a six member church and has grown to over 15 million people and over 29,000 congregations worldwide ("LDS Statistics and Church Facts"). With the past presidential candidacy race, it seemed that Mormonism faced many critiques or questions from Americans as Mitt Romney took the hot seat and answered questions about his religion ("21 Questions Answered About Mormon Faith"). Throughout my life I have heard the same statements from outsiders of the LDS church.…

I had been pondering this question for a while “how will my parents react when I tell them that I have decided to join the LDS church? The worst part of it all is that I didn’t ask permission to start speaking with the missionaries in the first place.” I was literally weighed down by fear as I crossed the threshold of my parent’s front door that evening. “I made this decision and I am willing to deal with the consequences,” I thought to myself. Somehow the brightly colored walls of the living room seemed dull.…

In today's society there are hundreds of christian denominations around the world and without Brigham Young the book of mormon would have just been classified as fantasy instead of non-fiction. In the United States alone there are over six million Mormons. Brigham has been called the modern day moses for bringing the teachings of Joseph Smith to the people after Smith's death in 1844. The Mormon church would not be anywhere close to where it is today if it weren't for Young. Not much of Young's early life is known but it is known that he was born June 1, 1801 in Whitingham, Virginia to a farming family and worked as a traveling blacksmith/ carpenter and was married to his first wife in 1824 to Miriam Angeline Works.…

“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own, you were bought at a price, therefore honor God with your bodies” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). I really love this verse because it helps me be healthier and helps me be purer for the Holy Spirit. We need to treat our bodies like temples, eating junk food and fast food will only hurt your body. Houston Baptist has only Chickfila as a source of food on campus.…

Joe’s speech in the second act, about the struggles of being a Mormon really moved me on a personal level. I grew up as a Mormon and I feel like there was a lot of truth in what Joe said. In my experience, people expect Mormons to be pure and perfectly moral. However, that is not always necessarily the case. From what I have seen, Mormons try to be their absolute best, but that does not necessarily happen.…

Growing up in a Mexican American household, most likely one is to be raised Catholic. Therefore, as a young boy it became ordinary to follow and believe in what my parents instilled in me. Furthermore, I never had the courage to explore any other religion and get a sense of what other religions are about. However, now that I am taking Social Work 461 with Dr. Tillman, one of my assignments is to attend a religious service that is held by a group that is different from mine. As a result, I decided to attend a Buddhist temple to get an insight of what the Buddhist religion is about.…
