The main points that I learnt from Week One’s lecture material are simplistic, but I believe each is important and fundamental to my further knowledge and understanding of TH 250 – Christology.
Firstly, a basic definition of topic: Christology is the study of the person of Jesus as the Christ: the Anointed One, The Messiah and the One who saves.
Secondly, Jesus is the foundation stone of a belief that God is present in the world and that God can be known and experienced. And the heart of an act of faith: a people trusting and knowing that God sent Jesus.
And thirdly, Christology can help us as Christians clarify and express just what it is they believe about him. As we investigate Jesus’ person and being (who and what he was/is) and work

The Preface of N.T. Wright's book, The Challenge of Jesus: Rediscovering Who Jesus Was and Is, explains what Wright's intent and purposes were for writing this book. Wright's purposes for writing this book was to show who the real Jesus was, what his teachings meant and how they can be applied to the modern society. Wright presumes that Christians go Sunday to Sunday repeating scripture and repeating the same things over and over, not fully analyzing what the text is saying. He claims that people need to analyze who Jesus really was and what his teachings really meant to fully grasp his purpose on Earth and how it affects humans in today's modern society.…

Christianity, a religion known the world over however, It did not start this way and its rise to preeminence was fraught with alienation, destitution and persecution. Christianity follows the belief that a man named Jesus who was a great teacher of his time and regarded by his followers to not only be a prophet but in fact the flesh and blood incarnation of God. Came to this world in order to redeem mankind whom in the eyes of God had been willingly lead down the path of sin, though their trespasses had apparently not warranted an extinction level event such as found in the story of Noah and the flood. Instead he chose a different route and gave to mankind a message of love and toleration for one another. The Jewish leaders and Roman officials…

We began this course in a discussion of theological method and the ways in which we do (and, perhaps more importantly, the ways we should) move beyond the Bible to form doctrine surrounding theological issues. Over the course of the class we discussed four primary views on the subject: Principlizing, Redemptive-Historical, Drama of Redemption, and Redemptive Movement. Principlizing uses the “principles” given in scripture, removes them from their context, and place them in the modern context in which the doctrine is necessarily applied.…

The theme in John’s Gospel, Christology from Above is the study of Jesus Christ. The theme explores Jesus Christ and tries to understand who He is. Also the gospel of John is interested in Jesus’s identity and mainly who He is. The theme of Christology from Above stresses three important things about Jesus including, Jesus’ heavenly origins, His identity as the Son of God, and His preexistence as the Word of God. One quote from John’s Gospel that relates to this theme is, "Jesus said to her, ‘Stop clinging to Me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father: but go to My brethren and say to them, 'I ascend to My Father and your Father, and My God and your God."…

When describing the work of Christ towards salvation, the Eastern Fathers introduce an aspect of mysticism in their theories of salvation. While the West focused on explaining salvation through original sin, the East focused on the fallen nature of man and how it is reconciled through Christ. The Eastern Fathers speak on the work of Christ’s historical events as having an impact on man’s salvation, but they also introduce mysticism into their theories. Their main focus tends to focus on the redemption of man as a whole and his deification. This overarching theme is apparent in the theories provided by the Eastern Fathers such as Clement, Origen and Methodius.…

Introduction: Throughout the course of this study there have been several intriguing characters and events. However, none seem to fascinate and catch my attention more than the letters of John. For some, John is just another view, another angle, and another account to confirm the identity, life, and teachings of our Lord and Savior. But to me, the author’s encounter and testimony gives the upmost credibility and validity for our purpose, our reason for existence, and most importantly, how and why we should live.…
