Texting Vs Calling

Calling vs. Texting Martin Cooper invented the first cell phone back in 1973; however, the only function it had was to call people. Friedhelm Hillebrand and Bernard Ghillebaert did not design texting until 1984. Back then, the cell phone was a rare commodity, but nowadays, everyone has at least one cell phone to interconnect with each other. People have communicated through texting and calling, but there are major variances between them. One similarity between texting and calling is how people use them for communication. Through texting, a person has to be able to spell and read accurately so that other people can understand them. Even when someone uses an emoji, which is a digital image or icon that express an idea or emotion, or a picture in the text message, people are able to comprehend the meaning from the familiarity of the subject. For example, when someone receives a text that makes him or her feel joy, then he or she has a tendency to send a happy face emoji back to the person. Texting uses less emotion because people cannot hear each other’s voice and interpret their meanings. When a person is sending a text message, they are sending a letter to another person. People assume the wrong thing because there is no voice to interpret. For example, when someone is trying to be sarcastic in a text message, then the reader could take it literally and cause confusion. Nevertheless, when a person uses the calling function on a cell phone, there is more emotion involved. People are able to interpret each other’s emotions and can react on them. For example, if someone uses sarcasm on a phone call, then the listener can interpret this and respond accordingly. Even though both texting and calling involve emotion, calling has a more personal feel than texting
