Tetanus

Tetanus is a disease that primarily affects the nervous system. The disease symptoms have been known since the ancient times, but the organism behind it was identified and isolated late in the 19th century and early in the twentieth century.4 Tetanus manifests in involuntary spasms of muscles beginning with facial muscles for generalized tetanus1. Stiffness of the neck is also experienced. The bacteria Clostridium tetani is responsible for production of toxins that cause tetanus. This bacterium exists in form of a dormant spore in the soil and in animal and adult fecal matter. 4(53) C. tetani is activated by lack of oxygen and presence of warmth and other factors inside deep wounds on the human body. tetani. The bacteria is found in soil all over the world and especially in excrement. Farms that have fertility enhanced using natural animal manure have a higher incidence of C. tetani spores. However, C. tetani will be present in plain soil and contamination of a wound by soil may result in development of tetanus. After infection with C. tetani, tetanus symptoms will manifest in 4 to 14 days.4(51) In instances where symptoms manifest early, the probability of mortality is high. In addition, fatality is almost guaranteed for untreated tetanus infections. Lack of immunization poses a threat of infection and poor defensive reaction by the immune system.3 Therefore, tetanus incidents are common in areas where prompt and good quality health care is not available such as in developing countries. While developed countries with functional healthcare have low rate of incidence of the disease, a significant number of cases of infections are reported and a few of them are fatal. Tetanus does not need large open wounds to infect a victim.1(862) Some cases are of tiny wounds that tend to close over the infection site so that it can barely be

According to research by Bode Science Center this bacteria is a rod shaped but comes in many different types of bacilli and may trigger local infections such as peritonitis, meningitis, appendicitis, and a bloodstream infection (Rauhut, n.d.). This bacteria is Catalase, oxidase, decarboxylase positive. It does not ferment any sugars nor sulfur. It is motile but also can be no motile. This bacteria is a strict aerobic bacteria that was isolated from fecal matter and then later discovered it is also found in stale beer.…

During the phase and process of the bacterial unknown project, vast amounts of test were performed in order to determine an unknown species of bacteria. Within the many procedures of identifying the unknown bacteria, I was first given a tube with the unknown bacteria, from which later on I started subcultures by streaking bacteria from the original tube onto a tryptic soy agar (TSA) slant. Throughout the process of identifying the unknown, new subcultures were produced in order to use the newest bacteria to conduct the tests. Thus, this process allowed the unknown bacteria to grow and maintain. Before a series of test were conducted, first a gram stain test was performed in order to determine the unknown’s gram reaction and its cell morphology.…

Tetanus is caused by the Clostridium tetani bacterium. Clostridium tetani spores are able to survive for a long time outside of the body. They are most commonly found in animal manure and contaminated soil, but may exist virtually anywhere. When Clostridium tetani enter the body, they multiply rapidly and release tetanospasmin, a neurotoxin. When tetanospasmin enters the bloodstream, it rapidly spreads around the body, causing tetanus symptoms.…

Pseudomonas aeuroginosa naturally occurs in environments such as the soil and water and on occasion can be found living on the surfaces of plants and animals. Even with the frequency it is found, it will only cause infections if it is allowed to get into cells that have already been damaged in some way, in example a cut or other abrasion of the skin (Todar para.1-4). It is a bacteria that requires oxygen to survive, grows best in temperatures thirty-seven degrees…

There will be various of test to choose from in order to identify the unknown organism, which will eliminate numerous possibilities and narrow it down to one. All the fundamental skills that we have learned and practiced in the lab will be used to perform on our unknown such as aseptic technique, microscopic examination, the use of differential media, and determining if it’s positive or negative. Performing aseptic techniques is the most crucial step that requires the utilizing of transferring, inoculating, and storing bacterial cultures and media. Aseptic technique is defined as procedures that prevent contamination…

Bacillus anthraces is an intense irresistible malady brought on by Bacillus anthraces, a spore shaping, gram-positive bacillus. Related malady happens most much of the time in sheep, goats, and dairy cattle, which get spores through ingestion of polluted soil. People can get to be tainted through skin contact, ingestion, or inward breath of B. anthraces spores from contaminated creatures or creature items (as in "fleece sorter's infection" from introduction to goat hair). Individual to-individual transmission of inward breath ailment does not happen. Direct introduction to vesicle discharges of cutaneous Bacillus anthraces injuries may bring about auxiliary cutaneous disease.…

It can cause severe injuries and/or death. Although many diseases spread from person to person.tetanus is one of the few diseases that doesnt spread from person to person in fact it enters the body from a puncture or cut threw a break in the skin by a contaminated object.for example you could be cleaning the yard and step on a nail and that nail could contain clostridium tetani because its found in soil and dust.…

It causes an inspiration whooping and it also can cause posttussive vomiting, apnea with or without cyanosis, paroxysms of coughing. Pertussis is a very highly contagious disease and can be caught by “direct contact with respiratory droplets from mucus membranes.” (Myra Carmon, 2010 p. 239) Pertussis began in the 1980s, but in 2012 the disease peaked again leaving 48,277 children being treated and 20 deaths.…

Three major groups in society cannot be vaccinated: infants under the age of one, Cancer/HIV/AIDs patients, and people that are allergic to components of the vaccine. The first recommended dose of the MMR vaccine, also known as the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine, is between twelve and fifteen months (Measles Vaccination). Disneyland park officials, to protect infants and children, strongly suggested that infants and unvaccinated people should not enter the park during the current situation (Ellis et al.). Anyone with a form of cancer, AIDs, or other illness that weakens his immune system cannot be vaccinated ("Who Should Not Be Vaccinated"). Because a weak, living virus is injected into a patient, the smallest trace of disease can attack…

Immunizations should be required for children because they are healthy for the child. Immunizations has the word immune in it which describes what a vaccine does to a child. The immunizations keep children immune from diseases such as polio, chicken pox, and measles. The immunizations are given to children as a vaccine, which has weak lab-made proteins that act like the actual disease in order to teach the human body how to become immune to it. WebMD claims, “Each of the diseases addressed by these vaccines posed a serious health threat to children, taking their lives by the thousands; today most of these diseases are at their lowest levels in decades” (Which Immunizations Do My Children Need 1).…
