Tessa did not want to be in high school. She was ready to move on from small town Hinton, Iowa where everyone knew everyone, and everyone knew everything about everyone. Ready to be in college, like her older sister, since Tessa began high school she believed she was more mature than all the other girls in her grade. Being very close to her sister, Tessa knew how she wanted her life to be, considering she felt she was four years older than she really was. Feeling older than she really was, made Tessa start to separate herself from the other girls in her grade. Immature, Tessa never liked to hang out with them, they caused pointless drama with other girls. Distancing herself was inevitable. She got to the point that she did not want to be around them at all. Eventually leading to avoiding sporting events. No longer wanting to be at school; school was dreadful for her. She did not want to face the teachers; she did not want to face all of her old friends that have now become annoyances. Tessa was on a downward spiral she did not even realize she was in. All of these lead to her mainly hanging out with her boyfriend. Not having close friends, Tessa found herself spending all free time outside of family time and school was spent primarily with her boyfriend. She did eventually find a good friend named Tiffany. Just like before, Tessa was spending a lot of time with Blake. However, now it became an extreme. All time was managed to be spent with him, Tessa left no time to be at home and to be with her family. At this point, she began to only look at negatives. When she wanted to go do something and her parents said no, that is all she would look at. She would no longer look at why they said no or even the amount of times they have said yes to other things. Her relationship with her sister began to fall apart. The two began getting frustrated with each other and they were no longer able to spend very much time together. All of this brings Tessa to think of where she is now. In the realization, Tessa knows she cannot make any new friends if she is stuck in her attitude resulted from the past. It is hard to put herself out there. Right now all she does is hang out with her roommate, watch television, do homework and stay in her room most of the time. As Tessa comes out of her daydream, thinking about her teacher’s assignment for her, she almost sees a light shining upon her as she reencounters her past four years of
