According to the U.S. Department of Justice’s National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS), on average, 293,066 victims are sexually assault or raped. So every 107 seconds another American is sexually assaulted. Summer has the highest rate of rape then the winter and fall, (Rainn). Any one at any age can be sexually assaulted. Sexual violence causes serious health issues. It also has long term effects on the victims mentally and physically.

The victim is being touched in private areas and is often violated beyond extreme measures. After the event, the victim has problems with any kind of physical touch. Predators use sexual coercion, the use of nonphysical force to obtain sex, which includes threats of physical harm, withholding finances, and other necessities. These types of harassments are generally never reported to the authorities. If the victims would report the sexual abuse it could potentially put the predator away in jail or prevent the predator from harassing her because he knows that she has no problem reporting him to authorities. People should get more involved on how to help these innocent victims, and to help prevent these horrific these from happening. Not everything can be prevented, but the more services and prevention groups that are involved could cause a less likely occurrence of sexual abuse for victims. The punishment for sexual violence should be very clear and understood so that potential offenders will know their consequences. Though sexual violence causes physical and mental problems there should be more programs and services ready for those in need of
