The term comfort is frequently used as it is one of the main reasons patients seek care and treatment from healthcare professionals. For nurses, one of the goals in patient care is to provide the resources for patients to have favorable outcomes. While medicine examines and treats the disease process, nursing takes into account the holistic needs and manages care based on the identified needs of patients. This places great responsibility on nurses to not only understand the meaning of the term comfort but to also have the ability to identify patient needs to ensure they are met.
