1. The purpose of both these lintels is to be records of the Maya dynasties. Lintels 24 and 25 show a series of rituals performed by Shield Jaguar II and his wife. Lintel 24 depicts a bloodletting ritual performed by the king of Yaxchilán and his wife. This sacrifice mirrored the Maya story of the creation of the human race: gods would bleed out to create them. By partaking in this ritual, the queen demonstrated moral and physical strength and suitability as Maya to the people. Bloodletting was a common practice in Maya life which played a significant part in public rituals and ruler-ship. Lintel 25 has an inscription that reads October 20, 681, which is the date of Lord Shield Jaguar II’s accession to throne as documented in other structures that commemorated him. The Tenochtitlan was important to the Aztec because there was where the most important ritual and ceremonial activities in Aztec life was held and it was the capital of the Aztec empire. The form of Temple Mayor was that it was a structure that stood 90 feet high consisted of two pyramids side by side on a huge platform. It was like a temple. The pyramids symbolized two sacred mountains: the Hill of Sustenance, which represented Tonacatepetl, whose patron deity was Tlaloc (the ancient god of rain) and the Hill of Coatepec, birthplace of the the Aztec war god Huitzilopotchli. The Codex Mendoza contained a simple structure most likely to symbolizes a temple, possibly an early phase of the Temple Mayor, which is h0w it is connected to the Temple Mayor. It also contains a simplified skull rack which was also found near the Temple Mayor. The Codex Mendoza was created to contain information about the lords of Tenochtitlan. The images were often in Spanish by a priest that spoke Nahuatl, the language spoken by the Nahuas (an Aztec ethnic group). The Codex was intended to be sent to the Spanish King, Emperor Charles V of Spain. However, it never made it to Spain
