Overlooked
In the book Tell the Wolves I’m home by Carol Rifka Brunt two sisters go through life wanting to be best friends but not acting like it. Those sisters are Greta Elvis, the older sister, and June Elvis, the younger sister. They were best friends when they were younger until Greta became jealous of June’s relationship with Uncle Finn, their mother's brother who is a famous painter who has AIDS and eventually dies. Instead of talking to her sister Greta decides to be mean to her. This makes June upset, however, she doesn’t realize that Greta still wants to be sisters. Once Uncle Finn dies, June becomes friends with Toby. Toby was Finn’s boyfriend who Mrs. Elvis made Finn keep secret. Greta gets upset with this because she thought once Finn died June would want to be friends again. She totally ignored June. June said “It was like she wanted me not to exist”(Brunt 256). Then after that she goes on to talk about how Greta also was not hanging out with her friends anymore and her eyes were tired and red all the time (Brunt 256). She went off the wagon and showing up drunk to the performance was part of it however that turned out to be the best thing that could have happened but she was so far isolated from everyone and everything showing her most significant moment of isolation. add quote form 238-240 That is why Greta biggest moment of alienation was when she found out about Toby and June. Even though she did not do the best job showing it, all she wanted was to be best friends with her sister again.
