Rural residents are faced with many barriers when it comes to accessing health care services. These barriers include having to travel long distance to health care facilities, lack of health care professionals willing to work in remote areas, limited number health care facilities available with specialists not willing to work in rural area. These barriers combined with financial constrains result in a higher morbidity and mortality in rural areas. Having access to quality healthcare that is affordable plays a major role for the well-being of a population. Access to health care is important for overall physical, social, and mental health status, quality of life, preventable death and life expectancy. ("Access to Health Services")
