In society, the teenager is seen as the embodiment of rebellion, and this generality extends into works such as Persepolis and Fight Club, whose main protagonists are teenage rebels. In both novels, each protagonist conforms with their societal standards, “accept(ing) (the demands of society) patiently, though (s)he may have protested inwardly, but in that (s)he remained silent (s)he was more concerned with his/her own immediate interests than as yet aware of his/her own rights” (Camus 14). However, there is a limit to how long one can suppress their views. In Persepolis, her final acts of nonconformity end up as an endangering factor for herself and her parents. If people would just take their time to think about what they're going to say and maybe even be kind to someone, this world could be a little more mature and less corrupt. All throughout the school teenagers are constantly hurting eachothers feelings. It is so easy to call someone a bad name or pick on someone because it has become such a habit for my generation.…

As a child, I would constantly hear the adults complaining about my teenage cousin; ’Moody’, ‘hormonal’, ‘immature’, these are some of the words they used to describe her. To their credit, she was very much in her own world, with music always blasting through her headphones and her hair badly bleached to make a statement. And it is true, teenagers will always have a bad reputation, just take a look at how we are represented in pop culture: ‘The Breakfast Club’, ‘Rebel Without A Cause’ and ‘Ghost World’ are examples of how we are often portrayed as rebellious, lazy and disrespectful. A lot of the time, I feel like teenagers are just misunderstood.…
