Teens text. That is something that isn’t new, we have been texting since 1992, meaning that in 2017 we will be hitting the 25 birthday of texting. Over time texting has changed our language, but truth be told, langauge is something that will always …show more content…
People have noticed that the use of numbers for letters is dying. It’s very true for the rise of unlimited texting and no typing limit most people can now use the full words whenever the are texting, but abbreviation is still a very big thing. With using text slang becoming popular and now it’s used by parents and children, teen now want very little to do with it for it’s “uncool” and more times then not words like “lol” are used more ironically nowadays. At the end of the day slang isn’t something new, even the word slang is slang (short for short language) and I personally don’t see it as a huge problem in the long term effects of literacy. With the talk of literacy did you know that teachers are using text slang in classrooms now? Yes, some teachers have gotten their students to take a old piece of writing and re write by using modern words and slang. Not only have they used text slang in work but teachers have given out their phone numbers that way students can text them from home to ask for help on things like homework. Old, young or a teen texting is something that has changed the world and it hasn’t just changed things like reading and write but texting can affect people in a more personal way. Introverted teens like myself found that texting someone is emotionally easier. When texting someone it’s easier to get to the point of things verse talking to someone outside of the phone is harder for you have to small talk or talk to other people making it harder to just talk to a friend. Being an introvert I see this. I’m very socially awkward but when I text a friend or not in a large group of people I find it easier to be myself and it’s less stressful to text for I can go over what I said and not say the wrong thing, which is something I have a habit of. From another standpoint of the things people say that texting and using chat speak is bad in school, I find it isn’t a problem for myself or my friends. I use chatspeak to quickly get a message out or to almost take the seriousness out of a text message and use text talk show my tone of what I’m saying. Chat speaking won’t go away and if people have a problem and think that it’s affecting teens, then maybe they should teach teens and kids not to use text talk in formal areas. If that doesn’t work then maybe, just maybe the texting isn’t at fault here and it’s just the person. If people are still
