Ted Bundy, probably one of the most famous of serial killers, can be accredited with the reasoning for this research. Bundy is on record, saying, “…I’ve lived in prison for a long time now, and I’ve met a lot of men who were motivated to commit violence… without exception, every one of them was deeply involved with pornography; without question, without exception, deeply influenced and consumed by an addiction to pornography.” Voyeurism and pornography addiction, as stated by many more serial killers, can have a devastating effect, not only on youth, but in the mind of psychopaths, children, and everyone that might come in contact with it. Not only can it cause addiction from early exposure, …show more content…
To people that watch pornography, the mindset begins to develop that the images they see are normal. The objectification of women, the abuse of other humans, the sodomy and sexual violence all seems regular to them. For children, mainly boys, who have never actual experienced “normal” sex, these images can fester in their minds, and they could begin to explore the genre of their choice even more. This can translate to adulthood; in which they would try to perform the sexual acts seen in the videos in actual life. This means they might reenact the violence, objectification, and abuse they see, leading to injury, or even rape or murder.
Pornography can actually be classified as a real addiction. Therapists who have treated people that are admittedly addicted to pornography, have said that they behave just like other addicts (Downs, "Is Pornography Addictive?"). Just like other addicts, therapists believe that pornography addicts build up a tolerance and need to see increasingly more “hardcore” material to feel pleasure (Mary Ann Layden, Pg.1). One psychologist said that “prolonged exposure to pornography stimulates a preference for depictions of group sex, sadomasochistic practices, and sexual contact with animals.” …show more content…
Every time we make a decision, we are creating a new neuropathway in the brain, and the decision becomes easier and easier every time it is made. In the background, while the brain creates this neuropathway, if a person can derive any pleasure from the decision they are making, the brain releases a chemical called dopamine. Dopamine is known as “the gas that fuels the desire engine.” (Lewis) This neurotransmitter is most closely involved with anticipation and expectation, and it is in control of all motivation in life (Lewis). Every time a person views pornography, and eventually, if they become hooked on it, every time they even THINK about pornography, the release of dopamine every time will make the connection between the cells much stronger; the stronger the connection between cells, the easier it will be to watch pornography again and again until it becomes the path of least resistance. The creation of this path is known as
