2. Identify biographical information about the author. Tedd Arnold was born in Elmira, New York in 1949. He moved with his family to Florida at the age of ten. Tedd started to take his first art lessons when he was ten years old. Arnold finished school and graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. He worked with textbook illustration, graphic design, and advertising for ten years. His wife Carol received a master’s degree in early childhood education and was a kindergarten teacher. Use: I could see myself using this book to teach students about idioms. I could ask the students what they mean in comparisons to what the main character translates them to mean. After reading the book I will create a T-chart of “known” and “new” idioms. I will have students create their own idiom and draw an illustration to share with the class.

b. Summary: A Pet for Fly Guy is about Buzz a little boy that has a pet fly. Buzz named his pet Fly Guy. One day Buzz and Fly Guy went to the park for a picnic. While at the park they watched other people play with their pets. Fly Guy decided that he wants a pet of his own so Buzz helps Fly Guy find the perfect pet. Buzz takes Fly Guy to the pet shop and came out with a puppy, kitten, frog, worm, spider and a cricket but none of them worked for Fly Guy. After talking about what Fly Guy needs in a pet they realize Buzz if the perfect pet for Fly Guy!
