By far the biggest technological factor affecting Wendy’s is the desire to make food faster, which directly hinges upon better and faster technology. This includes better-organized preparation tactics, faster cooking processes, faster ordering systems, and faster delivery to the customers. An alternative in ordering systems for Wendy’s and the industry as a whole would be to implement an ordering system that operates from a person’s smartphone. Creating apps in which people can place their orders and also pay from their phones before they ever enter the store could create a greater profit for franchises. In doing this, however, corporations would need to develop a technology that could handle this change in ordering style, perhaps following the ordering systems of pizza establishments or other fast food delivery services. Since this concept is still in its very early stages of the QSR/fast food industry, corporations like Wendy’s have some time to develop this technology, but maybe not too much time as technological advances are appearing at a rapid rate in all industries.3

Specific to the fast food industry, though, corporations are looking to implement the use of greener silverware options and packaging that uses fewer materials, thus saving raw materials that can be saved or used for other purposes. There has been a strong push in society for fast food industries to recycle more, leaving a smaller carbon footprint than is currently being left, which is also known as “greenwashing.”
Companies across many industries including QSR are spending much more time and money attempting to alter their image to say they’re “green” rather than actually implementing greener processes. Corporations are spending far more on advertising and marketing of “green” solutions rather than putting that money towards real business practices that minimize environmental
