Most obviously the characters are humans and are represented as human forms. Bechdel’s style seems realistic to the point that we understand all of the characters characteristics and the setting clearly. I think page fourteen represents her style clearly. The important qualities of the story so far are show in detail specifically the house. She draws the house in detail including the furniture and even wall paper. She pays closer attention to detail letting the viewer know she remembers this house like the back of her hand. On the top scene her mother, father, brothers and her stand looking at a light Mr. Bechdel is putting up. In this panel we see the elaborate detail of the house such as the dresser, lamp, curtains, and light fixture. She uses some cross hatching for shading, but mainly uses shades of gray to highlight areas like the curtains and in other panels clothing. Bechdel’s forms seem simple yet realistic and focused on facial expressions. A lot of the emotions are shown through the expressions or lack of expressions portrayed by all characters. In all of these panels on page fourteen Alison’s expressions are less than enthused and look to be irritated most of the time. This page also shows Bechdel’s general shape and use of panels and speech balloons or text. The panels are generally rectangular or square nothing outrageous just plain like the people. The speech balloons correspond to the characters speech, but the text is generally Bechdel’s voice explaining
