Teamwork and reflection

Our Activity

Our group decided to run a pub quiz to raise awareness and money for the sharks trust.
We originally decided to organise the open evening at the Marine School, however upon discussion we decided that it was too much to take on, and we’d be much more suited to running a charity quiz event.

The group decided that we would run the pub quiz in the bar at the local sailing club, I wasn’t present for this decision, but it was a good choice of venue. The quiz was to be £2 person, which I thought maybe expensive but no one complained and we raised a decent amount of money for the Sharks Trust. Each of us played a small part in contributing to our event, though I don’t feel that I lead any part of the

I would have liked to have played a bigger part in the organisation of our event. In some ways this is my own fault, as I didn’t attend all of the group meetings. Firstly because I was ill then also because I was moving house. I did however repeatedly ask if anything needs to be done, but Anthony and Ed had sorted out everything before I could even assist. I wasn’t really given any responsibility during the task which lead to me doing not an awful lot.

Anthony was responsible for getting the donations for the quiz prizes together and did a great job of going to local businesses and getting these

Most of the academic and life skills I have acquired over the years that I have been out of formal education come from my own personal research and actively challenging myself each day to learn something new, I undertook reading scientific journals and actively following the news and current affairs in my own spare time. This is known as informal education: “Informal education: the truly lifelong process whereby every individual acquires attitudes, values, skills and knowledge from daily experience and the educative influences and resources in his or her environment – from family and neighbours, from work and play, from the market place, the library and the mass media.” (Smith

Funds have been used to support the recruiting, retention and graduation of minority males. We have used these funds to support less fortunate families as we have our annual “B2B Canned Good Auction”. During this event canned goods are collected for donating to the Lamar County DFACS Office. In addition to community support we have also used our club funds to develop a faculty centered support system. We have displayed this with our “B2B Legacy Ball” where faculty members were honored for their involvement.…

This Hawk Helpers day has numerous benefits and will positively impact our student culture at FHE. Through volunteering and participating in other activities the students of our school can become closer to each other, leading to a more connected school culture. (Insert something that connects to the WHY conclusion here) However, it might seem that the drawbacks of this plan outweigh the benefits. In reality, no event is perfect, and despite its possible weaknesses, this plan for a Hawk Helpers day should be accepted and implemented.…

Being Ethiopian and having lived there before, I’ve always wanted to give back. Habesha Leadership, a club dedicated to bringing awareness and helping Ethiopian and Eritrean countries, gave me a platform to do so. Previous years, we have done book drives, and last year we even made and sold chapstick as a collaboration with GirlUp, an international organization that helps girls in underdeveloped parts of the world. This year, as the president, I wanted to take the community service aspect to the next level. I had visited Ethiopia last summer and got in contact with an orphanage that helped kids go to school.…

The group project felt important to me, because it gave me a chance to present a topic that was meaningful to me. The topic of my group’s project was anti-racism in protest songs, and showing how many artists took to the stage with their thoughts of equality, attempting to change the way that some people are perceived in this nation. Preparing this project didn’t go without stress or challenges though. My group partners, despite my persistent nagging, procrastinated until the last minute to get any work done, and even though there were five of us in my group, only two people did any significant work on the presentation. As the deadline for the presentation was growing closer, I knew that it was time to act.…

Throughout high school, I have learned to overcome many challenges, yet I recognize that most of the time I cannot do it by myself. At the start of the school year my NHS advisor stated that she wanted me to direct some sort of relief fundraiser, given that Texas, Florida, and Puerto Rico were all devastated by hurricanes. As president, I was eager to make it happen because I, along with a few other members of my NHS, have family in all three locations. However, the main challenge was not getting approval from administration, but rather creating a fundraiser where students would actually donate. Most fundraisers done by previous NHS groups had failed.…

In High School I was given the task along with a select group of students, to be curators for a Holocaust museum presented by the 10th-grade class. It was a large undertaking put upon a small group of 10th graders but we felt confident. Our grade depended on the performance and outcome of the event as a whole. Leading up to the event things seemed to go smoothly and well organized but it was later known that many of the selected curators would not have been able to attend the event. Out of the 10 chosen only 5 were able to attended and it was definitely a setback.…

After completing the campaign for the semester, I have learned that I am better at managing a team than I give myself credit for. At the beginning of the semester, I didn’t have much experience managing other people and was worried about how I would be able to handle it. All in all, I was able to keep the team on track, for the most part, throughout the whole campaign process. I was very happy with how much I was able to get out of people and how hard everyone worked on the campaign. If there is one thing that I could improve on, it would be to be tougher on people who are not doing there share.…
