Team Work In Pharmacy

Decent Essays
I have worked in a restaurant for many years. Although this job does not directly relate to pharmacy, they are similar in some ways. Both jobs provide service for people and require team work. During this time, I have learned how to get along with different kinds of people and how to work as part of a team. Most importantly I have learned respect for all the various people I have worked with, both customer and co-workers.

I am a member of APhA-ASP and FSHP. I attended the APhA-ASP Midyear Reginal Meeting, which helped me to build up the networking with other student pharmacist, develop the leadership, and explore potential career opportunities. I volunteered at the Muslim American Social Services Clinic, which is open to everyone and serves

Healthcare is a team effort and its continuity is not possible by a person alone. Healthcare workers will need to work collaboratively in teams if they are to meet the complex and changing needs of the patients they serve. Nurses and physicians should have effective collaboration to solve complex patient care problems. In this study, grounded theory was used to explore nurses' and physicians' experiences with collaboration in order to understand the process intrinsically. It is imperative that the inter-disciplinary team be on the same page regarding what a collaborative effort means for effective patient care.…

I have been employed in several different jobs in customer service. I’ve been in a call center environment, retail, and serving or bartending. Retail and serving or bartending are similar in a lot of ways, and quite different at the same time. I think everyone should have to work in retail or food service at some point in their life. You learn a lot about people, and about yourself.…

As a member of Health Occupations Students of America, I competed in dental terminology in the interest of diversifying my knowledge of the medical field and made it to state-level competition. I also joined a rigorous Pharmacy Technician Certification class and interned at CVS, an experience that taught me to work fast and in an organized fashion, be social with colleagues and customers, and teamwork skills such as assisting a customer or answering phone calls for co-workers. These responsibilities taught me to make use of time and be more social. This environment was amazing to me because I had always wanted to understand how a pharmacy is managed. In the end, I passed the state exam to become a certified Pharmacy…

APNPs need to discuss medication effects and reasons for prescribing meds with their patients. Adherence to medication is dependent upon proper education for patients. As for reducing errors, the more that a patient understands about the medications they are taking, the more control they have over changes or mistakes by the pharmacist or the RN giving the patient the medication, thus reducing errors. Medications should be prescribed only for the prescribed length of use, especially for opioids. For long term medications, prescriptions should expire in one year.…

Working hard is the definition of paystation. It is not an easy job, and that’s why I love it. I especially love the challenge of running the register and cleaning the dining room, but making sure everyone who comes in is helped quickly and has to wait as little as possible. I never thought working at Hy-Vee would make a difference in my life, though. Throughout my time working at Hy-Vee, I have learned a lot about working hard and being efficient, and applying that to my life outside of Hy-Vee…

For example while in my community pharmacy rotation at Clarks Pharmacy I was able to visit the Psychiatric homes and see the process on how the pharmacist ensures the medications for the patients are placed and stored in the correct areas in compliance to law. In addition, I learned how you could check and verify their medication regimen making sure the meds they have on stock match with the documentation of the dispensing pharmacy. In addition, I was able to see the role of a community pharmacist in control substance verification of inventory from a hospital they provide service to. In regards to my Hospital rotation I was able to aid in the bi-annual hospital nursing training in which we reviewed with them common reconstitution types of mathematical calculations, proper aseptic techniques and reconstitution of different IV bags. This experience was unique as I was able to serve as an educator to…

There is an African Proverb that says “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” This quote resonates with much of my life and parallels my experience with Duke’s Team Fuqua culture. Additionally, it aligns with the synergetic dynamic necessary in healthcare to provide coordinated care to patients. I witnessed how important teamwork is in healthcare last year when I hopped on the train from D.C. to New York within 6 hours after hearing that my diabetic, blind grandmother was rushed to the hospital for the third time in one week.…

Drinka and Clark (2016) discuss interprofessional teamwork as a combination of health and social care professionals; who work together collaboratively in the best interests of each individual patient as the primary focus. The Gibbs reflective cycle (1998) is the model we have chosen to reflect on our dynamic as a team and our individual roles within a team focusing on a collective goal. Furthermore, the Gibbs model has been used previously by all members of our team; meaning we are all more familiar with it. Also, the Gibbs model is more commonly used than others, such as Kolb’s (2015) model for reflective writing.…

As Salas et al (2003) states synchronization between skills is needed to provide seamless treatment of high quality, resulting in a reduction in stress to the patient and decreasing the recovery period. A view supported by both Duggan et al (2003) and Mumford et al (1982) who concluded that decreasing anxiety of patients’ aids in the recovery from operations. In real terms this will decrease the number of hospital admissions/appointment required, save money and maximise the use of the National Health Service’s resources enabling more patients to receive vital treatment (Department of Health 2001) .This seamless administration of effective multidisciplinary care will only be achievable if co-ordination between team members is monitored through effective leadership ensuring they are all working to the same goal. As Mickan and Rodger (2005) stated that effective leaders posses the ability to maintain the basis for reaching the goal whilst providing encouragement for all team members an attribute important in healthcare as the environment is stressful (Cornwell and Goodrich…

I’m still steering towards the research and work at the industry level. The work at the community pharmacy seemed very monotonous and didn 't have much variation. I did like the patient interaction. I recognize the importance and role that the community pharmacy plays because the pharmacist is the last step in the patients’ health care. They are the last medical professional that the patient can talk too about their treatment, concerns and symptoms.…

IPPE 1 Reflection My IPPE 1 experience went relatively well. Already having worked in a community pharmacy setting, I knew what to expect and felt that there really was little to gain. Going into the rotation, I was somewhat bitter that I would be losing 3 weeks of my time to work in a setting I already have been working in. By the end of the rotation however, I did end up gaining at least some valuable experience and insight that I did not receive in my previous work experience.…

Reflection On Professional Organizations I have been conducting research on some professional organizations and I have determined that ASHP would be a good match for me. This is because ASHP is an organization that is heavily involved in advocating legislation to benefit pharmacists, patients, and the health care system. Some of the most important issues to me are getting the pharmacist more involved in a patient’s health care and to make health care in general more efficient. ASHP is attempting to accomplish these tasks by actively advocating legislation to meet their goals.…
